An important message from Jim Coover & Kevin Adams…

As you may know, members have been unsuccessful reaching the Isagenix Website since early this morning. This issue has been caused by an unprecedented number of requests to access our Website. The level of traffic appears to be an orchestrated attempt to block our members from having access to the Isagenix Website. We have not had any attempts to hack our systems or to access confidential information. Our IT professionals are working with our Internet service provides – Time Warner and Qwest (Century Link), to resolve this issue as soon as possible. We are encouraging callers to our Customer Care Center to try back later or if it would be more convenient, we can take their order information and enter it when the Website resumes normal operations.

We will keep you updated as we have further information.

Why the Internet is Protesting SOPA and PIPA Today

Normally, IsaGeeks is primarily concerned with training and tips on how you can better use online to promote your business. As an IT blog, however, there are news stories so big we would be remiss in our duty not to let you know about them.

Google's petition to stop SOPA

You may have noticed a number of websites across the Internet are down today – most notably the English version of Wikipedia, social sharing site Reddit, the blog Boing Boing, and Craigslist.org. (Wikipedia is still accessible today if you are using a mobile device, however.)

Thousands of webmasters with smaller pages and blogs have similarly shut down their sites for the day, in an effort to show the world what the Internet might be like if SOPA and PIPA were to pass.

Isagenix is not taking part in this blackout. Your site and services will not be interrupted.

The reason is SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) and PIPA (Protect Intellectual Property Act). Thankfully, two pages on Wikipedia are not blocked out – the pages on SOPA and PIPA themselves. As such, I can refer you to this to learn more about this legislation to form your own opinion.

While Google is still up and running, they are slowing down their search spiders – automated programs that scan the Internet for their search listings – so a site blacking out in protest does not hurt its search rankings.

The blackout is scheduled to last the rest of the day, and then these sites will be back up and running.

The IsaGeeks Podcast is now Live

IsaGeeks Podcast on iTunes

IsaGeeks’ first podcast is now live on iTunes. We had to wait a few days to announce it, since it takes a while for Apple to approve everything when you submit a podcast, and we wanted to make sure everything was in order before we did.

Well, it is now! ? If you have iTunes already installed on your computer, you can subscribe to our podcast by clicking on this link to their site.

When you get to this page, click on the, “View in iTunes,” and subscribe from there. You can add it to your mp3 player, or just listen to it on your computer.

Getting Isagenix Podcasts on Android Phones

We’ve done a lot to make podcasts easy for you to get to. They are available on iTunes, made them available to Blackberry users, and even started posting the shows on our Facebook Fan Page.

Isagenix podcast Android

The Isagenix podcast page on an Android web browser

One area we haven’t addressed yet are Android devices. Android phones (and soon tablet computers) are very popular for web browsing, and perfect for listening to Isagenix podcasts on the go. However, they don’t really have a centralized “store” for podcasts the way Apple and Blackberry do.

Getting Isagenix podcasts on your phone, however, is very simple. In your Android phone’s browser, simple go to the Isagenix podcast page. Newer versions of Android will be able to play the files directly off of the screen.

If your Android phone doesn’t allow this, you will need to get a podcast player from Android Market. (There are several to choose from.)

Then add in the link to the RSS feed for the show you want. These can be found on the Isagenix podcast subscription page.

Finally, if you are already using Google Reader on your Android phone, you can find the subscription buttons for it on this page as well.

Enjoy!

Fit more on Twitter and Facebook – Shorten your links

If you’re on Twitter and Facebook a lot – as everyone else is these days – you’ve likely posted a message or two by now for your followers and friends. You might even have shared a URL to something. (A URL – or Uniform Resource Locator – is a techie way of saying “web link.” If you just say, “URL,” though, most people will know what you’re talking about.)

You might also have found out that you only have 140 characters for your post on Twitter – and some web links are REALLY LONG. (more…)

The right keywords and getting more traffic

Got a great couple of questions on our Twitter account this weekend:

“Hey guys. Wondering where one could find keywords to target market isagenix? Also any suggestions for getting web traffic up?”

I love getting questions on Twitter! The problem is there’s precious little space to give full answers there. So whenever I get one of these, expect to see a post about it.

Doing your own SEO Part #1: How to do Keyword Research

(ed. note: “SEO” stands for “Search Engine Optimization”)

Everybody says they want to be #1 in Google. But what does that mean? #1 for what? When you get to “the front page of Google” it’s only because someone did a search for a term that had something to do with you.

So the real secret is knowing what keywords people are using in searches. When you know that, you know what you want to be #1 in Google for.
